When a person happens to attend any occasion like wedding, dinner party or visits any restaurants the thing which grabs the attention is beautifully decorated table. The tables are adorned with beautiful patterned cloth, various embellishments with beautifully napkin folding like fan folding, rabbit shape, rose folding and many others. Out of these entire fan folding are used widely. This is due to the reason that it is easy to fold them, moreover they add grace to the table. Ironing the napkin always helps but it is not very necessary. The only thing required is starched cotton or linen napkins. This material works perfectly with this type of folding technique.

The technique of the fan folding is as follows-

• Take a napkin which is thick. The thicker napkin will retain the crease formed by the folding. Lay down the napkin on the hard surface.

• Fold the napkin in half

• Start accordion folding and make a pleat of about of ¾ to 1 inch wide.

• For the fan folding make the pleats of up to 2/3^rd part of the napkin.

• Do the folding of the pleats in half and the accordion pleats facing outside.

• Hold the folded pleats and fold the left of the unfolded part at an angle leaving 1 inch below

• The next step for fan folding is to fold this one inch to the opposite side in which the earlier fold has been done.

• Open the fan folding and make it stand on the table. The pleats will be released to form a beautiful fan folding. The napkin will remain in the form of fan folding until and unless it is touched or picked up.

Thus, the fan folding is not a tough task to do. It takes few minutes and any person does not require a special training course to learn it. Learn it once and one can teach it to all others. However, while selecting the cloth napkin for fan folding it is always recommended to go for thicker one as explained earlier. Moreover, a starched napkin always maintains the shape of the fan folding and does not allow it to get damaged. A napkin ring can also help a lot in maintaining the shape of the fan folding. The fan folding with a ring gives it firm hold. The process of folding a napkin with a ring differs a little. It includes the following steps-

• Take a napkin and fold it in half.

• Fold the bottom part toward upper side.

• Then start with the back and forth folding for the whole napkin.

• Divide the folding into half and slide the napkin ring on the lower side.

• Open the fans of upper part to give it a perfect shape to fan folding.

Other than this one can also use own imagination or ideas to make folding firm. The technique discussed above is single fan folding technique. There is other method called double fan folding method. Several other shapes are there into which a napkin can be folded but this shape is the most simple and stunning.
